This is amazing, God is doing good things. I love the worship and the talks have been brilliant
Thanks a lot for all the great tips you’ve given. I’m definitely going to incorporate them into my youth group. I’ve learnt quite a bit from yesterday. Keep up the good work. Sade
Hey Matt, just wanted to say I got so much from Michael’s session, do you have a template for it? Great 1st session. God bless Dee
Here are a few details that were requested after the conference:
Session 1:
- The DVD played at the start of the conference was the Youth Alpha Intro DVD. This was designed to inspire youth groups and other leaders to run courses (this DVD is not aimed at potential guests). It is available from alphashop.org
- Rachael Heffer's Youth Alpha talk modelled 'How can I be sure of my faith?' (week 3) and she used different parts of all three Youth Alpha streams. (Active, Lite and Tech) The movie clip she showed was from 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' as suggested in the Youth Alpha Leader's Guide.
Session 2:
- Michael Crowne's (19 years old) model Youth Alpha talk was 'Why & How should I read the Bible?' (week 5) and he used the Active stream to prepare his talk.
- Matt Costley showed a clip from 'The Simpsons' in his talk that showed a church remodelled and rebranded with corporate sponsorship. It was from an episode called 'She of Little Faith' which we found on a video.
Session 3:
- We played a video that used Dr Lockeridge's prayer 'That's My King' with visuals added to it. We bought this from www.sermonspice.com for US$15.
Session 6:
- Worship was led by the HTB Youth worship band. Mike Pilavachi and Roy Crowne spoke about Hope 08 - check out www.hope-revolution.com
Session 7:
- Matt Costley played a clip from the film 'Meet the Parents' in his talk on Small Groups. He also ended with the 'How not to lead an Alpha small group' video which is included on the Alpha Training DVD - which you can buy from alphashop.org
Session 11:
- Rosie Gillum (17 Years old) gave the final model talk about 'How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit' (Weekend Away Talk 3). She was given the Leaders' Guide and asked to prepare a model Youth Alpha talk using any stream. She included some film clips, one recommended by the Guide and the other that made the same point as the one in the Guide but that she chose herself. The clips were from the films 'Twister' and 'Spider-man'.
Some of you asked about the CDs we played in the breaks - we played a range of music including Hillsong United's 'United We Stand' and 'All of the above'; Tim Hughes 'Holding Nothing Back', Ben Cantelon 'Daylight Breaks Through' and 'Soul Survivor Live 2007'.
